Help with the bike sale

There are two Bike Sales each year which are run by the 1st Oxted Scout Group. As well as being a valued event for the local community in the Oxted area, they also raise significant funds. The September Bike Sale takes place on the morning of Saturday 9th September in Master Park   (see also the Oxted Scout Group website for details:

We would appreciate your support – in fact the event needs the support of some 20+ adults in order to take place! The details are below and I would be grateful if you would let us know if you will be able to assist. Please bear in mind that you do not have to volunteer to help for the WHOLE time – just an hour or two please:

  • There is a small amount of loading to do on the Friday 8th September at the Scout hut, approximately 19:30-20:15.
  • There are the key tasks on the early part of Saturday morning of setting up and building the arena, so all bikes will be secure and the buyers effectively managed, starting from 06:45/07:00 onwards in the Park.
  • Then there is the stewarding, plus registration of bikes, collecting money, passing money to vendors etc that takes place between 0815 and 1100.
  • Finally there is the task of taking down everything and returning it to the Scout Hut, from 1100 to 1300.

All of the above are well established procedures, but, as noted, do require something in the order of 20+ adults on the day to make the whole thing run efficiently. Cubs and Scouts themselves can play key roles with the set up and then moving the bikes in and out of the arena and getting paperwork to the vendors (Scouts should attend wearing their Scout shirt and scarf. A tabard will be provided, but please be aware that young people remain the responsibility of their respective parents at the Bike Sale).

Many of you have assisted with the previous bike sales and will know that the morning is a very enjoyable as well as productive affair and I hope that those of you less familiar with the event will also be able to help out.

Please let us know if you will be able to assist with the upcoming bike sale, and, if so, which part or parts of the event you can assist with.

Many thanks
