BIKE SALE Saturday SEPT 21st, Master Park, Oxted – Definitely taking place

The next used Bike and Pram sale is Saturday 21st September in Master Park, Oxted.

Sellers – Bring your roadworthy and good condition bikes, prams, scooters etc down to Master Park for registration at 8:30am. You set the price (we can offer guidance) and you can complete a form ahead of time (one form for each item) if you follow the Bike Sale link to the right of the home page. The Scout Group takes a 20% commission from the sales price as a contribution to help us invest in equipment for the running of the Scout Group

Buyers – The sale opens at 9:30. Queues can form ahead of 9:30, but grab a coffee or tea and a bacon roll while you wait. We ask if you are happy to make a 50p donation per adult on entrance and please note that all sales are for cash (no cheques or cards). The sale is largely done by 11:00/11:30am, so do be their early.

Scouting in Oxted

WELCOME TO THE 1st Oxted Scout Group, headquartered at the Stafford Hut on Chalkpit Lane in Oxted.  The 1st Oxted provides Scouting for Beavers, Cubs and Scouts in the Oxted and Hurst Greecentenary scarf designn area. All young people aged between 6 and 18 are welcome in Scouts. We are a thriving Scout Group currently supporting the running of two Beaver Colonies, three Cub Packs and two Scout Troops along with an Explorer Unit, with over 30 uniformed leaders and around 200 youngsters. Through the efforts of many, including a number of new leaders and the support from Surrey Scouting and East Surrey District, scouting has now recommenced at the Hut at Hurst Green, Mill Lane which is now home to both a Beaver Colony and Cub Pack. Please see the quick links on your right, or the main menu, for further information, including joining forms under the Beaver, Cubs and Scout Sections. 1st Oxted Scouts forms part of East Surrey District Scouts along with Scout Groups at Tatsfield, Godstone, South Godstone, Lingfield, Burstow and Hedgecourt (Felbridge). East Surrey District is in turn one of 14 Scout Districts in Surrey. Young people over 14.5 take part in Explorer Scouts and we offer an Explorer Unit based in Oxted that is run on a partnership basis with East Surrey District. Click here for more details.

Remembrance Sunday 11th November 2018

All uniformed Beavers, Cubs and Scouts should attend in full and smart uniform. Scouts living in Hurst Green, plus the HG Cub Pack and Beaver Colony should attend at St Aggie’s Hall and march to St John’s Hurst Green. Scouts living north of the A25 should attend at the Royal British Legion and march to St Mary’s Oxted, Please do ask for advice on this if you need more guidance or have any questions. Times for HG and OX are slightly different; you will be fully advised of details in due course

Cub and Scout camps in 2017

The Cubs & Scouts will have the chance to go on a number of camps during 2017. These are:

  • Scouts: Winter camp at Broadstone, 27-29 January, cost £55/head – click here for details
  • Cubs: District Cub Camp, May 2017
  • Scouts: Scoutabout at Ardingley Showground, 7-9 July, cost approx. £50-60/head (tbc)
  • Cubs: SUMMER CAMP at Drum Hill near Derby, 22/7/17-25/7/17
  • Scouts: SUMMER CAMP at Drum Hill near Derby, 30/7/17-5/8/17, cost £150/head (tbc)

Subscriptions and capitation

In 2017 we will combine termly subs and annual capitation to make a combined termly fee of £47/term (Scouts and Cubs) and £42/term (Beavers). The annual fee of £35-£40/head of the past will no longer be charged but is combined with subscriptions. Subscriptions should be paid by MyDonate – not by cheque or bank transfer.

Payments for one-off activities (camps, nights away, special adventure activities etc) can be made on-line directly. We need to reduce massively the number of cheques handled by the leaders and the treasurer.

Group AGM

Group AGM and drinks: 7.30pm, Wednesday 21st September, Crown Inn, Old Oxted. At this evening and before we will look at the year behind us and lay out to parents how it will be over the next year. As we grow stronger and more organised, we need to make some changes.
