Demand for places in Scouts – particularly in Beavers – is very heavy and continues to be greater than any possible provision of places now or in the future, even with the reopening of a Beaver Colony based out of Hurst Green. Whilst we record the details of those who express interest in joining the Group, this does not guarantee that a place will be offered.
Our three Beaver Colonies are pretty much full. There is already a long list of young people who want to join the Beavers in the future.
If your interested youngster is already over five years old, it is unlikely that they will get into Beavers at 1st Oxted. We can take your details, but it will be Cubs (from age 8) that the youngster may be joining.
We take young people according to the following order of priority:
- Children of existing leaders or trustees* of the Group
- Existing members of the 1st Oxted moving from Beavers to Cubs or Cubs to Scouts
- Siblings of existing members of the 1st Oxted
- Length of time on waiting list
*members of the Group’s Executive Committee have serious responsibilities as trustees of the Group as a Registered Charity.
Additionally we must offer places to existing uniformed young people who have recently moved house into the Oxted and Hurst Green area. NB we are not obliged to accept young people from other Scout Groups if there is no house move involved.
Occasional (once per term or so) rota-based assistance with Scouting activities – whether Beavers, Cubs or Scouts – we would expect as a minimum requirement for all parents as a condition of entry.
The Group is always happy to hear from keen parents, from those willing to assist with the Bike Sales or other fund-raising, from anyone willing to contribute a little more of their time and effort to assist with Scouting in any form – whether in the “back room”, fund-raising or in uniform.
Though there is no guarantee that your son or daughter will be offered a place, to put your contact details on our “joining list” and register interest, please click on one of the following:
