If there is no school, there is NO SCOUTS

As a rule, if there is no school - this includes Bank Holidays, "Inset days" at Oxted School falling on a Monday, and Bank Holidays, then there will be no Scout meeting.

"Tons o' fun" CAMP 25-27 MAY 2007

MORE DETAILS TO FOLLOW

Note the change in dates - the camp has been shortened; Scouts will be picked up on the Sunday.

The "tons a fun" camp is a County level event so there will be Scouts from all over Surrey attending. It will take place at Blacklands Farm near East Grinstead.

Lots of fun activities for all Scouts, including climbing and canoeing, and go-karting (not motorised). The theme for East Surrey district is "Asia".

We will need two parent volunteers for this camp to assist with the catering - which is being organised at District level. As leaders we will also have to assist with first-aid cover and contribute an activity to the camp. I have one volunteer already. One more would be great.

The cost will be £42.50 per Scout not including transportation - I will cost this up later. Scouts will arrive Friday afternoon after school and finish SUNDAY.

THIRTEEN scouts have said they would like to attend.

It is not too late. If you would like your Scout to attend this camp, you need to provide a cheque, payable to 1st Oxted Scouts, for a deposit of £12.50, with the name of your Scout on the reverse as soon as possible.

COLDITZ NIGHT HIKE OPERATION ECHO

SEVEN Scouts took part in the Annual District night hike on 24 March 2007. They all had a great time wandering around East Surrey - in fact the area to the south and east of Hurst Green - in the middle of the night.

St Georges Day Parade

Lingfield, Sunday 22 April, 2.15p.m

St Georges Day is an important event in the Scout calendar. We should like ALL the Scouts to attend this parade through Lingfield and short service afterwards on the Sunday afternoon.

Parents should drop their Scout in full uniform in the outer car park at Lingfield School, Vicarage Road, Lingfield, at 2.15p.m. The Service should be over by 4p.m. Parents and family are welcome to attend.

DISTRICT FIVE A SIDE - LINGFIELD, Sunday 20 May

Once again the District is holding a five-a-side football competition, at Lingfield School on 20 May. After the Scouts brave efforts last year against driving rain and much heavier and bigger opponents, I am confident that our keen footballers will want to take part and take the game into the other half. I would love to hear from a parent who knows and cares more about football than I (shouldn't be too hard) who would be willing to lead and coach the Scouts on the day.

NETWORK RAIL - summer works 2007

You may have noticed a series of yellow marks set out along the ground in the Stafford Hut car park.

This is to indicate to you the area we will continue to have access to during forthcoming works, and the area closest to the fence which will be the works compound. It will be possible to drive up to the hut and park, but there will be very little room, and turning your vehicle round will be almost impossible.

Also marked the area beyond our green fence is an area tthat Network Rail wish to use to accommodate their offices and sleepng cabins. They are going to remove the green fence and take out a small tree so as to lift the cabins in.

There are notices in the entrance on the HQ, and there are some handouts which all should ensure that they have read.

Summarised, these state that vehicular access to Chalkpit Lane and the Stafford Hut car park will be difficult for the entire summer.

AGM - Friday 18 May, URC

The Group will hold its annual general meeting at the URC on Bluehouse Lane, owing to the ongoing work near the Stafford Hut being conducted by Network Rail.

There will be some snacks and liquid refreshment. Please come along and support the Group in this important annual event.
