REMEMBRANCE SUNDAY
Parade from Royal British Legion and service at St. Mary's Church, Oxted
Sunday 8th November 2009
The 2009 Remembrance Parade will form up at the Royal British Legion at 10.40a.m, marching from the British Legion to the War Memorial and then once wreaths have been laid, onto St Mary's Church, Oxted for a service. Afterwards the Parade will return to the British Legion for around 12.30pm. Light refreshments will be provided.
There are just TWO Sundays in the Scouting year when we require full attendance from all uniformed members of the Group - Scouts, Cubs and Beavers. The first of these is St George's Day in late April, the second is this one - Remembrance Sunday.
Please arrive at the Royal British Legion on Church Lane at 10.15a.m. Scouts should attend in full uniform, Scout trousers, Scout shirt and scarf. Please iron the scarf to make it neat. In the absence of Scout trousers, school trousers may be worn. No trainers please - all youngsters should wear school shoes and make sure that they are clean and polished. If it is raining or if it is very cold coats should be worn, but as far as possible Scouts should parade without coats.
We do ask parents who find it necessary to absent their son or daughter from this important event to write or email explaining why. Winter camp and the Colditz Night Hike will only be open to Scouts and Cubs who attend the Remembrance Parade or whose parents provide a written or emailed apology.
The Group's position is that whilst some youngsters may have sporting fixtures or other activities on Sunday, on these two Sundays of the year such events should take a lower priority. Sporting fixtures will not be an acceptable reason for absence.
