Welcome to the 1st Oxted Scout Group, headquartered at the Stafford Hut on Chalkpit Lane in Oxted. The 1st Oxted provides Scouting for Beavers, Cubs and Scouts in the Oxted and Hurst Green area. All young people aged between 6 and 18 are welcome in Scouts. We are a thriving Scout Group currently running two Beaver Colonies, three Cub Packs and two Scout Troops, with over 25 uniformed leaders and around 160 young people in uniform. We have recently worked with our District and Surrey Scouting and a number of new leaders to successfully base a Beaver Colony and Cub Pack at the Hut at Hurst Green, Mill Lane. Please see the quick links on your right, or the main menu, for further information. 1st Oxted Scouts forms part of East Surrey District Scouts along with Scout Groups at Tatsfield, Godstone, South Godstone, Lingfield, Burstow and Hedgecourt (Felbridge). East Surrey District is in turn one of 14 Scout Districts in Surrey. Young people over 14.5 take part in Explorer Scouts and we offer an Explorer Unit based in Oxted that is run on a partnership basis with East Surrey District. Click here for more details.

Demand for Scouting: We always welcome further communication with friendly, positive and encouraging people who are willing and able to commit to helping in any serious way with the work of the Group and the community – all leaders and helpers are unpaid volunteers. The Group depends on volunteer assistance doing a little here, a little there. Not all are uniformed Scouters. There is a need for assistance with fund raising, for people able to handle administration of lists, subs and monies, occasional organisers or rotas and events, sometimes cooks and caterers, sometimes extra parents for certain activities, and for groundsmen and tradesmen or women.
There is only one way parents can guarantee that their young people get into the Beavers, Cubs or Scouts, and that is, to become a Scouter themselves for a number of years. Scouting depends on volunteers, and we welcome people who are willing and able to give something back to the community.
Please note: Parental willingness to undergo a DBS check, and being willing and able to assist with meetings on an ad hoc or rota basis around once per term is an expectation, unless otherwise agreed due to specific circumstances.
