Meet our Leaders

All uniformed leaders and officials of the Group are unpaid volunteers. Most of them work for a living as well as helping run the 1st Oxted Scout Group, and many of them have children.

Phil Hosp
Group Scout Leader

Phil has been involved in Scouting in Oxted and Hurst Green for over 10 years and in recent years has taken on overall leadership of the group as well as continuing to help with Acorn Cubs in Oxted. He loves seeing the enjoyment and confidence that youngsters gain from trying new things.

Amanda Doran
Scout Leader and Explore Leader

Amanda is a highly experienced Scouter and secondary school teacher. As well as leading Monday night Scouts, she is also the leader of our Explorer Unit. She loves the outdoors, never missing the opportunity to camp. She holds permits for a number of adventurous activities including climbing, archery, shooting and hill-walking.

Lee Beech
Scout Leader Thursday (Chalkpit) Scout Troop

Lee works in a senior role literally “behind the scenes” at the Royal Opera House. He started working with the Thursday Troop in Oxted in July 2014 subsequently taking over as leader. He has a youngster that has been through Cubs and Scouts and can turn his hand to pretty much anything including building go-karts with the scouts.

Jane Hilson
Scout Leader

Jane runs the Hurst Green Scout Troop and has been pivotal to the successful restart of scouting in Hurst Green over the last couple of years having started with Cubs. She has two youngsters in Scouts and very much enjoys the outdoors, having obtained permits for camping and axe-throwing.

Andy Wright
Cub Scout Leader

Andy is Akela (leader) of our Wednesday (Acorn Pack) Cub Pack in Oxted. He is a family man living in Limpsfield who has been leading the Cub Pack since 2011, having got involved when his sons were Cub age.

John Jones
Cub Scout Leader

John Jones is our Hurst Green Cub Pack leader. He has four youngsters, all of whom are in Scouting and is always on the look out for finding ways to introduce the Cubs to new experiences

Alex Pratt
Beaver Leader

Alex is the leader for our Oxted Beaver Colony, getting involved when his eldest child started Beavers in 2019. He loves the variety of activities they do at Beavers from sailing and archery to supporting the local community and how this helps to teach the Beavers new skills and experiences. If he had to choose his favourite it would be anything outdoors and especially the night hikes.

HM King Charles III has been confirmed as our new Patron, a great honour for UK Scouts.

The King continues a long tradition of the monarch giving their Patronage, dating back to 1912. This was when Scouts was granted its Royal Charter and HM George V became our first Patron.
